Normally when you think of Christmas and bugs, the only bug you might think of is “Bah Humbug”! Well, we aren’t referring to that kind of bug. We want to share about what very well might be your new favorite bug when it comes to Christmas. If a bug were a Christmas ornament, this would be it. Allow us to introduce you to the Christmas Beetle.
The Christmas beetle didn’t get its name for being bright red or dark green in color. Rather, the Christmas Beetle got its name because they like to come out at Christmas-time. Unfortunately, they do not like to celebrate the season of giving. They are known for destroying large areas of land and in some cases, trees.
The Christmas Beetle is quite interesting. While we wish it was a pest here in America, we’re glad it isn't because if left unattended, Christmas beetles can wreak havoc on
When they are seen around Christmas-time, it is due to the fact they are laying their new eggs. The young, new Christmas beetles like coming out around Christmas because it is early in the summer in Australia. Isn’t that funny? However, in America, that’s normally during our winter months ranging anywhere from December to February. Now we know why these little critters come out around that time because it is warm to them.
As you can probably tell, it’s important to be proactive in providing proper attention to ensure these beetles don’t get carried away and destroy lands. We love the Christmas beetle but we don’t suggest giving it as a gift this year! If you happen to find more bugs than gifts in your home this December, give us a call and let the experts take care of your home. Remember, the bug stops here!
